U.S. Reaffirms ISPM15 Compliance Requirement for WPM Imports

On August 19, 2025, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reiterated its requirement that all Wood Packaging Materials (WPM) used for imports into the United States must fully comply with the ISPM15 international standard.

According to ISPM15, pallets, wooden crates, and other wooden packaging materials must undergo either Methyl Bromide fumigation (MB) or Heat Treatment (HT). In addition, each treated wood material must bear the official IPPC mark, certifying that it has been properly treated to eliminate harmful pests.

Failure to comply with ISPM15 requirements may result in shipments being quarantined, denied entry, or returned to the country of origin, creating significant risks and unnecessary costs for exporters.
